About The Race:
GB Ultras welcome ultra-runners to the remarkable Snowdonia National Park and the beautiful village of Betws-y-Coed (translated as 'Prayer in the woods' in Welsh) for the 2020 Snowdon Ultra 50 & 100 mile ultra-marathons.
Runners follow the Snowdonia Slate Trail past Swallow Falls to the foot of the mountains of Eryri where the legendary Dragons await!
50 Mile: 3700m of Ascent. Mountain trails lead to Heather Terrace on Tryfan, Snowdon summit, Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Devils Kitchen, Llyn Idwal and Pen yr Ole Wen before joining the trails beside Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd and then onto the finish of the 50 mile in Betws-y-Coed.
100 Mile: 7700m of Ascent. The race then heads to Beddgelert via the Snowdonia Slate Trail with ascents of Cnicht (the mountain gets its name from the old English word 'Knight', 689m) and Moel Hebog (783m) before passing Llyn Dinas and Llyn Gwynant for a final ascent of Moel Siabod (872m).
Both of the events are unmarked routes (although they follow dedicated trails throughout and some of these are well marked, i.e. Snowdonia Slate Trail) and are therefore classed as navigation events. Please also see mandatory kit on the race website www.GBUltras.com. Runners must be experienced ultra-runners and have the ability to use a map and compass competently in order to ensure their own safety throughout the race.
In true GB Ultras tradition, there is also the opportunity to take part in a number of completely 'Free of Charge' training runs in the lead up to the race to ensure maximum confidence of the route.
