Date: 01/12/2020 - 07/12/2020
The Aberystwyth Charity 10k is a fast, flat race that takes runners along the promenade and around the Rheidol river's edge. Since its instigation by Carl Williams in 1999 it has grown into one of the most popular flat road races in mid-Wales, with over 800 entries last year.
This year would have been the 22nd Aberystwyth Charity 10k, but unfortunately the Coronavirus crisis means it cannot be held in its usual form. It would be a shame to have a gap though, so 2020 will be the year of the Virtual Aberystwyth Charity 10K! Participants can run 10k wherever they like, any time from Tuesday 1st December to Monday 7th December, and submit their results on line for a place on the leaderboard and a special commemorative coaster sent by post.
The virtual race should raise a small amount for charity, and this year we have nominated St John Ambulance Wales - who would normally have provided First Aid cover for the Aberystwyth 10k. SJAW have seen their income slashed due to the drop in demand for event medical cover and workplace/club First Aid training, but they have supported the NHS front line during the pandemic by transporting patients, assisting pharmacies, and re-skilling to help at the new field hospitals.
The Cambrian News is sponsoring the event again (as they have done since 2010) towards the cost of the commemorative coasters.
The entry fee for the Virtual Aberystwyth Charity 10k is £8.
