CHARITIES NOMINATED BY THE RAND ROAD WARRIORS CLUB MEMBERS FOR ASSISTANCE FROM THE 2023 EDENVALE MARATHON AND 5KM FUN RUN ARE:

Cycling Beyond Boundaries

Cycling beyond Boundaries was inspired by two children, Tyrell Davis (a Rand Road Warrior youth member) and Yusayrah Munshi. Both children have been excluded from school sports and activities due to their different abilities. Tyrell having a diagnosis of Achodroplasia and Yusayrah Spastic diplegia moving into their teen years and being home schooled due to the lack of our school system being able to accommodate them. We wanted them to have a social aspect, get them moving and enjoy life. Find a way to exercise outside of therapy giving them lifelong skills. As they include more children, they are looking at a "bike lease system" where the children do events and participate in awareness programs to "earn their bikes". They currently have two children waiting for bikes (which are specifically designed to their abilities). The one young lady, Usiphile Njeje is a 15-year-old girl diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She resides in Edenvale, Eastleigh. The bikes cost around R15k each.

Brainy Birds Parrot Rescue
Providing a safe and loving environment for the recovery, conservation and care of over 250 companion parrots. Brainy Birds believe birds don't belong in a cage. But through human intervention they have become pets, and with that, sadly the trade in birds has resulted in many people buying a bird from a breeder or pet shop without really understanding the intricacies of owning a bird. It is these birds that are often abandoned and surrendered to sanctuaries. Brainy Birds pledge to educate people to stop this practice.

Little Eden
Little Eden is a benchmark non-profit organisation accommodating 300 children and adults with profound intellectual disability in two specialised residential care facilities. Little Eden caters for people with profound intellectual disability - those who are classified as uneducable - of all races and creeds. Priority is given to those who have been abandoned or abused, or who come from severely disadvantaged backgrounds. Once accepted into the Little Eden family, they remain with them for life.

RySky
RySky Foundation is a registered NPC, PBO and NPO (in Alliance with KCCC). They are a registered Food Essential Service Provider. Providing care services and social relief to children, elderly, disadvantaged, and the disabled. Organizations / Shelters and directly to less fortunate communities/beneficiaries. RySky supports the Edenvale community by distributing food to individuals and other charity organisations within Edenvale, supporting persons with substance abuse problems, aiding job seekers, convicts and vulnerable groups.

Revive
Weekly Revive has the privilege to share surplus food from retailers that use Food Forward SA to eradicate food shortage in South Africa. Every week we hear stories of how these food parcels make such a difference in Edenvale family's lives. Revive hosts support groups for parolees which is such a crucial tool to encourage the rehabilitation road of ex-offenders, to meet and share with those that have similar experiences builds community and helps prevent re-offence. Revive participated in a clean-up of the Edenvale sports ground. One of the activities of Revive is to find opportunities for parolees to give back to communities. This is always on a voluntary basis and does not form part of community service linked to a sentence.
