About: In line with Botswana Government developmental plans and vision to promote tourism in the southern part of Botswana (specifically Kgalagadi district), a group of enthusiast hikers and nature lovers have conceptualised and initiated an event that is aligned to the vision. That group has formed a non-profit organisation Ukhwi O Qhuqhayo Ltd through which it intends to promote projects or events that align with the above mention developmental plan.
For its first project the organisation has identified the village of Ukhwi - a remote village that has a population of less than 2000 people, gifted with one of the most beautiful salt pans in Botswana. It is also adjacent to the Kgalagadi National Transfrontier Park, giving it a greater opportunity to be part of the Transfrontier Park?s ecosystem. Proceeds from the event will be used towards development of the stopover camp site at the Pan
The area presents a unique alternative destination for offroad enthusiasts to drive to Namibia through Kang, Hukuntsi, Monong, Ukhwi, Ncojane, Charlesshill to Mamuno (Botswana/Namibia Border). The pan is best described as Makgadikgadi on a much smaller scale. It is mostly accessible by raised vehicles that is 4x4 and 4x2 with only the brave and very experienced able to access it by ordinary sedans.
