About: Soweto Cabal Athletics Club, which was founded in November 1999, will be hosting road races at the University of Johannesburg, Soweto Campus on Sunday 03 August 2025. The races will be a 5km fun run and a 10km race. Our club expects between 2000 and 2500 runners at the event. This will be our second race. It generally it takes at least three to five years to build a road race into a respected event with a large following.
Part of our journey as a club is to make an impact in communities, from whence we originate.
The impact we envisage will include the establishment of a youth development programme in Soweto. We are also planning on extending the development programme into a fully- fledged academy, whose long- term aim is to provide the youth with behavioural skills to empower them to become productive and economically active citizens in life.
The two races will target runners who are primarily based in Soweto but belong to other clubs, social runners who are not attached to any club and to encourage community members to participate in the event. It will also target runners belonging to clubs in Johannesburg, the East and West Rand.
We do hope that you and your company will see the value of playing a role in supporting the race and thereby playing a critical role in the development of the sport in Soweto.
