The Lesedi Easter Marathon returns for its second year, proudly hosted by Suikerbosrand Athletics Club.
Building on the success and spirit of the inaugural event, the 2026 marathon promises an even more memorable experience for athletes, recreational runners, and families alike. The 42.2km race continues to be an officially recognized Comrades Marathon qualifier, offering runners a fast, scenic route designed for strong performances and unforgettable moments.
The marathon once again showcases the natural beauty of Heidelberg, a region whose name - "Lesedi", meaning "light" in Sesotho - perfectly captures the warmth and hospitality runners can expect. With its flat, well-maintained roads and sweeping countryside views, the route provides the ideal setting for personal bests and a refreshing escape from the city.
Set in Heidelberg, on the eastern edge of the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, the area blends rich history with small town charm. This Victorian-era town, preserved from the late 19th century, sits just 50 kilometres south-east of Johannesburg, near the Mpumalanga border and conveniently accessible from the N3 highway - making it easy for runners from across South Africa and beyond to join the celebration.
