The Daveyton Hearts Athletics Club, in partnership with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, will be hosting the Daveyton Hearts Street Mile Race, a community-based sporting event aimed at promoting athletics and nurturing emerging talent, particularly among young people in the township.
The Street Mile Race is a youth-focused initiative designed to identify, develop, and showcase athletic talent within the community. The competition will feature several race categories, including Under-15, Junior (Male and Female), and Senior (Male and Female) divisions. Participants in these categories will compete in a fast-paced mile race, covering 1 mile (approximately 1.6 kilometres) from start to finish.
In addition to the Street Mile competition, the event will also include a 10 km race and a 5 km Fun Run/Walk. These races are intended to broaden participation and encourage community involvement by attracting runners and fitness enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds, including men and women of all ages and fitness levels. Participants will run through the streets of Daveyton along clearly marked and well-managed routes covering both the 10 km and 5 km distances.
Given that the core objective of the event is to promote running, physical fitness, and healthy lifestyles, the programme will also incorporate aerobics sessions and community fitness activities. These activities will provide an opportunity for non-competitive participants to take part in the event and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere of health, wellness, and community engagement. Through this inclusive approach, the Daveyton Hearts Street Mile event aims to accommodate a wide range of participants, strengthen community spirit, and inspire a culture of active living and sporting excellence within the township.
