The Secondary Schools Triathlon Champion Schools Event is conducted by School Sport WA, in partnership with Triathlon WA. There are individual and team events.

Categories
Age is at 31/12/2026
Senior - 16/17/18 years (born 2010/2009/2008)
Intermediate - 14/15 years (born 2012/2011)
Junior - 12/13 years (born 2014/2013)

Distances Swim/Bike/Run - All divisions is 400m/12km/3km

Schools are required to bring along a thick waterproof marking pen to mark the competitors, with their number. Please mark numbers be on both arms and the front of the right thigh/shin depending upon student race wear.

Draft Legal Races
Athletes competing in the Draft Legal event must have an approved road racing bike as per Triathlon Australia Racing Rules, please see section 3.15 on the following link.

Teams Event
Teams will be Male or Female and based on enrolled school year.
If mixed gender they will be entered in the Male Team Category.

Mixed years' Teams will race in the oldest student's year: Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11+

Timing Bands
Teachers and individual athletes should collect their team's timing bands from the registration desk on arrival at the venue. These are allocated by number to each competitor, please make sure the competitor has the correct number timing band.

State Team Information
STATE TEAM SELECTION - PLEASE NOTE CHANGES FOR 2026

The SECONDARY TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP will double as one of the SSWA State Team trials for the 12-19 years age divisions.

All students who nominate as individuals MUST also complete the Interstate Nomination Form to be considered for state team selection.

All students who compete as part of their school team MUST also complete the Interstate Nomination Form to be considered for state team selection.

Athletes wishing to go for State Team Selection will compete in the "Draft Legal" race in their age category.

Year 6 students born in 2014 MUST compete at the Secondary Triathlon event to be considered.

The Interstate Aquathlon introduced for the first time in 2026 will again be held at the 2027 Triathlon/Aquathlon Championship. Please note athletes may trial for both Triathlon and Aquathlon but may only be selected for one or the other for the 2027 Interstate team.

TEAMS

The Primary Schools Triathlon Champion Schools Event is conducted by School Sport WA, in partnership with Triathlon WA. There are individual and team events.

Competitors must attend the nominating primary school and be enrolled in years 4 (& under at the discretion of the school) 5 or 6.

Aquathlon - This is the selection race for the Interstate Aquathlon.

The Aquathlon is for 10 and 11 years olds (2016, 2015)

Primary Aquathlon Individual distances are Run 1km, Swim 200m, Run 1km.

For the Multi-Class Aquathlon (which can also have open competitors in), the distances are Swim 100m, Run 1km.

Triathlon - Athletes born in 2014 who wish to be considered for the Interstate Team must compete in the Secondary Schools Triathlon on Thursday 5 November 2026.
This event is for 12 year olds (2014)

Primary Triathlon distances are Swim 200m, Cycle 4km, Run 2km

- Four divisions (A, B, C and Girls) are offered for this event.
- Schools may nominate any number of teams
- Teams can be any mix of gender (besides the Girls Division) or year group.

- Schools are advised to ensure that swimmers nominated can successfully complete a 300m swim.

- Division A is for the more elite teams and teams with cyclists on road/race bikes.

- Divisions B and C are intended for teams to be entered according to team rankings. Road/Race bikes are NOT allowed in these divisions. Teams will be disqalified if they use a road/race bike in B or C Division.

- Girls Division is for those who wish to compete in a team of 3 girls. Girls may still compete in the A, B, or C Divisions in mixed teams, but cannot participate in 2 races on the same day. Road/race bikes CAN be ridden in the Girls division.

- It would be appropriate to allocate, where possible, teams to compete in each division. Organisers reserve the right to allocate teams according to division numbers and race balance.
